What to Do Before Moving Into Short-Term Corporate Housing

If you’re traveling for business, you may find yourself needing to stay in temporary housing in Philadelphia at some point. Moving can be stressful, but planning ahead can help you account for every little detail. Before moving into a fully furnished apartment, there are a few things you should do to make your transition smooth.

Inquire About Available Amenities and Accommodations

Before packing to move into your furnished corporate housing, you should inquire about the accommodations you will be receiving. You don’t want to over or underpack. The leasing agent can give you a complete list of the supplies and materials included with the housing so you can know exactly what you’ll need to bring with you and what can stay behind (or go into storage).

For example, many fully furnished apartments have all the furniture, linens, and kitchen appliances you will need. However, if you are a professional chef, there may be a few missing supplies that you will need. If this is the case, these are the things you will want to pack!

Consider Your Wardrobe

Where is your short-term rental located? Is your wardrobe appropriate for the weather? This may seem like a minor detail, but if your rental is across the country and the climate is different than what you are used to, you may be without the necessary clothing to be comfortable. Make sure you consider the typical weather conditions of your new location and pack (or shop for) appropriate clothing.

While thinking about which clothes to pack, be sure to consider what you will need to wear for work and any events, such as formal dinners or nights out on the town. You don’t want to be in a new area without the clothing you need to get you through the day.

Don’t Forget Your Pets

It’s always wise to double-check that your short-term rental is pet-friendly. You don’t want to show up on moving day to run into a problem with your pet being in the apartment.

Once you confirm your furry friend can live with you in temporary housing, make sure you pack everything they will need to have a comfortable transition. Pack up their food (or confirm that you can buy their food brand in the area you are moving to), bowls, leash, bed, crate, and toys. By having these little familiar items, you’ll help them feel more relaxed in their new environment.

Make Mail Delivery Arrangements

You can have your post office forward your mail to your new address for up to a year (magazines and newspapers for 60 days). If your temporary move is longer than this, you can change your address to the temporary home’s address, or you can get a P.O. box so you don’t have to change the address more than once. Whatever you choose, you should make these arrangements before moving day.

Label Your Items

While living in temporary corporate housing, you will likely be using some of your own personal items as well as supplies and equipment that belong to the renting agency. For this reason, it may be helpful to label everything that is yours, so you know what to pack up when it’s time to move again.
